Melinda Heater

Melinda Heater is a graduate of Neosho High School and graduated from Missouri Southern State University (although at the time it was called Missouri Southern State College) with a BS in Secondary Education, Chemistry major and Biology minor. Melinda received her MS in Education of the Natural Sciences, Chemistry and Biology, from Missouri State University (although at the it was called Southwest Missouri State University). Melinda taught high school chemistry in the state of Missouri for 31 years and on the college level for 5 years. Melinda is truly “old school”. Electronic calculators did not exist until her senior year of high school. Up until then math problems were calculated by hand or using a slide rule. Doing research for her Master’s degree thesis was done using microfiche or the card catalog for research. The internet and Microsoft Word did not exist in those days. Old school typewriters were the only way to create documents. Melinda joined the Upward Bound team in 2018 and has found it the best way to spend her retirement years. Melinda has a large surly cat, Oscar, and an adorable Goldendoodle named Mazey. Melinda spends her free time hiking or sitting in her backyard hut listening to old school CDs of her favorite bands from the 1970’s.
